Ebook About To the rest of the world, he was the little boy who went missing on the Fourth of July.To me, he was everything. My heart hasn't been the same since he disappeared, but I've learned to build my life around that missing piece.Twenty-two years later, the last thing I expect is for that missing piece to come back. His name is Oliver Lynch, and this is his story. This is our story.Book Lotus: A Love Story Review :
Wow, Just wow. I am not sure I can articulate how I feel about this book; my concern is I am afraid my review will not do this book any justice by my review. Lotus is a masterpiece, and Jennifer Hartman is now one of my favorite and go-to authors. I was anxious to find what would happen and didn't want the story to end. Lotus is a impressive and beautiful book of a boy who was held captive while being brainwashed for twenty-two years and is now trying to acclimate into today’s society. Let me say how much I adore Oliver and how the author wrote his character. He is so intelligent and is underestimated by those who love him and never gave up hope. He touched my heart and soul. Sydney never gave up hope of losing her best friend and is afraid of losing him again. I love her quick wit, and I laughed so many times. We read about the aftermath of trauma and the healing journey. It's far from smooth sailing, and their love story is so intense. The author has a way with her writing where I felt every single emotion and her storytelling is top notch. There are a few twists; I didn’t see them coming. It was nice to read cameos of past characters, and I look forward to furthering cameos and new characters. If you're looking for an emotional heart-touching novel, Lotus is a must-read for you. Oliver Lynch has escaped captivity after 22 long years alone by himself. All is not what it seems and the story behind his capture has more to it than meets the eye. So many layers of complexity just waiting to be peeled away in this gem of a story and Jennifer Hartmann executed it brilliantly. I adored Oliver. He has kept his mind very active all of this time but still has an innocent curiosity and wonder about him that makes him so endearing and lovable, especially the way he talks. Of course he is dealing with culture shock because what he had been told is not what has actually happened and interacting with people after solitary confinement is daunting.Sydney Neville, Oliver's best friend from childhood and next door neighbor, never forgot about him. He's didn't stray far from her thoughts and now he's back in the flesh, right in front of her. The impact of his return completely rocks Sydney to her core and she won't risk losing him ever again. Even if that means bursting through his bubble and then putting up her own shield in protection. Sydney doesn't do commitment. She learned the hard way that some losses can't be recovered and she isn't built to handle that all over again.Despite the heavy underlying subtext, this isn't that kind of read. It's more about exploration and rediscovery. The exchanges between Sydney and Oliver are sweet, lighthearted, funny, angsty and definitely filled with tension. The push and pull was so tangible, I don't think I'm alone in wanting to shake Sydney by the shoulders and tell the girl to simply go for it because it's what she's been waiting for all of her life. Both of them are fantastic characters. There is a bit of a suspense element or underlying mystery that requires resolution because it impacts the whole story and all of the characters. That was weaved in flawlessly and organically and I could see where it was going, realizing how this loose thread tied everything together, answering all of the questions. I knew I had to read this after having read Still Beating and Lotus does not disappoint, with some Still Beating characters making brief appearances (but is not required to read prior to Lotus). As for the title of this book, once the origin is revealed, it's a full circle moment packed with feels that leave the heart stuck in the throat. I am already looking forward to this author's next book.
